Helping to sustain
Wednesday Community Breakfasts
in Amherst, Massachusetts.

The Wednesday Community Breakfast (WCB) program at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Amherst (UUSA) was informed in November that it would lose all funding for food purchases as of 31 December 2025. The WCB has been served continuously since 2014, even through the pandemic, when volunteers served to-go breakfasts on the sidewalk in front of the Meetinghouse.

In order to continue this important program, El Colibrí immediately began working with a UUSA Task Force to help raise funds and prepare for new administrative responsibilities.  While operational decisions remain with the UUSA, El Colibri will also provide administrative support.  All contributions raised are directed to the WCB at the UUSA without any deductions or administrative fees.

Thanks to support from the Town of Amherst, through its Community Responders for Equity Safety & Service (CRESS), and generous contributions from people at the UUSA and other stakeholders in our community, we are now able to continue the WCB in the short term, and hope to be able to do so in the long term as well.

Special thanks to Town Manager Paul Bockelman and CRESS Director Camille Theriaque for entering into a partnership with the Amherst Shelter Inc. / El Colibrí and for working with the UUSA to keep this vital program operating on an emergency basis.

“We are excited and energized to keep the only free meals program available on Wednesday mornings operating.  And we look forward to working more closely with a very professional team of CRESS responders,” said Kevin Noonan, President, Amherst Shelter Inc., / El Colibrí.
